Real Artist Stories

  • Watercolourist

    Watercolourist

I spent six weeks working with a group of residents at a local care home. One resident, who rarely spoke, began painting a series of bright blue landscapes. It turned out he was recreating the coast of his childhood home in Amalfi. By the final session, he wasn't just painting; he was sharing stories of his youth with the staff and other residents. This project reminded me that art isn't just about the final image—it's a key that unlocks doors we thought were permanently closed.

  • Community Muralist

    Community Muralist

We took a grey, neglected community wall and turned it into a 'Living History' mural. I worked with teenagers and local elders to find common ground. The teenagers taught the elders about modern street art styles, while the elders shared historical milestones of the neighborhood. The result wasn't just a painted wall; it was a bridge between generations. Now, the local youth take pride in protecting that wall from graffiti because they feel a sense of ownership over the story it tells.

  • Percussionist & Educator

    Percussionist & Educator

In my sessions with SEND students, we focus on 'non-verbal dialogue.' One student, who struggled with traditional classroom environments, found his voice through a simple wooden cajón. We developed a call-and-response rhythm that became his way of checking in every morning. Seeing him transition from isolation to leading the group in a rhythmic circle was the most rewarding moment of my career. It proved that rhythm is a universal language of belonging.
